The Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Art together form the University of the Arts The Hague. We offer Bachelor’s and Masters’ courses at HBO level, a range of preparatory courses and, in association with the University of Leiden, a variety of electives and a PhD programme.
Students at the Royal Conservatoire are studying at the oldest music school in the Netherlands. They are studying at an institute of music and dance where experiment and innovation are inextricably linked with tradition and craftsmanship in an inspiring learning environment and where they are taught by leading international musicians and dancers. Our education and research is dedicated to the creation, recreation and presentation of art, in the school and elsewhere, in collaboration with other organisations, institutions and professional partners at home and abroad.


As of the 2020-2021 academic year the Royal Conservatoire is seeking to engage a
Teacher for the main subject of Baroque trombone
To provide classes in playing the historical trombone as a main and subsidiary subject.
The teaching takes up primarily 34 weeks between mid-September and the end of June, apart from the autumn, Christmas and spring holidays and the exam period. Besides teaching duties, the candidate will be on the exam committees and will contribute to projects relating to the department.
The teacher appointed offers students optimum guidance in their development to become professional musicians. The responsibility for this is shared by the teacher and the student. Priority is given to a growing degree of self-sufficiency and independence in the student in the course of the learning process.
The teacher is expected to continue to develop his/her teaching expertise within the opportunities offered for this by the conservatoire. The teacher will also take part in initiatives that promote cooperation in the teaching team.

Your profile
- you are available to teach at least every fortnight; - you have a highly active life in music and close contacts with a wide network; - you have a sound record as a soloist and ensemble player;
- you have a reputation as a reliable and versatile teacher in the subject; - you have extensive professional knowledge of the subject and expertise in academic music research; - you have a sound idea of the necessary qualifications in the working world; - you are capable of conveying the essential knowledge and skills of early music practice to trombone students in the Classical department.

We offer
A contract for a period of 12 months for the time being. The position is graded on salary scale 11/12 in the Collective Agreement for the Universities of Applied Sciences (CAO-HBO) depending on background, training and experience. The amount of hours of the appointment depends on the number of students. Besides a good salary the collective agreement also offers attractive conditions of employment including good training opportunities, a 13th month payment, pension arrangements (ABP) and health insurance.
